Popular for fjord-like canyon walls marking the boundary of beautiful reservoirs, Curecanti preserves the beginning of the same canyon system protected by Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. But because it is a national recreation area and does not carry the flagship 63 National Park designation that Black Canyon has, Curecanti tends to get a fraction of the crowds and therefore feels more wild, remote, and natural, especially during the off-season. Curecanti spans three reservoirs (Blue Mesa, Morrow Point, and Crystal), and the Park Service manages recreation and land resources. Visitors fish, boat, sail, windsurf, paddleboard, kayak, camp, and hike in an aquatic paradise.
